Shining a Light on the Voices We Must Hear: Unanswered Calls Documentary Launch
On 4 June 2025, Children’s Rights Queensland team members attended the Brisbane launch of Unanswered Calls — a confronting and powerful new documentary that brings long-overdue attention to the often-silenced experiences of young people living with domestic and family violence.
Proudly presented by Safe Steps and a number of production and event partners, Unanswered Calls doesn’t just raise awareness — it demands a response. The documentary courageously shares the voices of young victim-survivors, many of whom have felt invisible in policy, services, and support systems. Through raw and honest storytelling, it shines a spotlight on their resilience and makes a compelling case for urgent, collective action.
The message is clear: children and young people are not just witnesses to domestic and family violence — they are victims, and too often, they are the ones left unheard and unsupported.
The film’s Brisbane screening was met with deep emotion and reflection from those in attendance, including sector professionals, community leaders, educators, advocates, and people with lived experience. The launch served not only as a powerful reminder of the importance of listening to young people, but also as a rallying point for change — to ensure that no child or young person falls through the cracks again.
At Children’s Rights Queensland, we believe that every child has the right to be safe, heard, and protected. Unanswered Calls echoes these rights and challenges all of us — as individuals, organisations, and communities — to do more, listen more deeply, and advocate more loudly.
